FNU articulates its mission as providing psychiatric practitioner education that is accessible and which prepares its associated primary caregivers to be entrepreneurial, competent, compassionate, and ethical leaders that can provide healthcare services to all patient populations. However, FNU’s mission focuses more on vulnerable patient populations, especially those living in underserved, rural, and diverse areas and women. When students enroll in a university, the main goal is always to equip them with the knowledge to help them be independent in their practice. Hence, FNU’s entrepreneurial goal for its students will be crucial to me as a psychiatric nurse. Ethics and compassion are values that every nurse, regardless of the field they serve in, should possess. There have been various cases where mental health patients have been censored or discriminated thus impacting their well-being, while such actions also contribute to most patients not seeking healthcare interventions. Hence, through FNUs effort to ensure that its primary caregivers adhere to ethical values like beneficences and maleficence ensures that nurses work in the interest of their patients by making sure that these patients experience no harm. Also, compassion is a value that help nurses not only to care about the patients effectively but also to relate effectively with coworkers. That is because when coworkers relate well with each other, they coordinate care effectively, thus impacting overall patient outcomes.
