Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Program Admission Request Essay
A Psychiatric- Mental Health career is naturally essential to society and me as an individual. When reflecting on society, most people in the 21st-century struggle with mental health issues that are contributed by high-cost living and other socioeconomic factors like unemployment. As an individual, the career is crucial to my personal development since after I finish my Master’s, my long-term goal is to pursue doctoral psychiatric studies to enhance my experience in the field. That is because, in each level of nursing education, one gains different knowledge concerning the appropriate ways to handle the target patient population. Another factor that made me choose Psychiatric mental health is my love for community-based healthcare services, especially in ensuring the patients receive patient-centric healthcare services to improve their overall health. Therefore, upon reflecting on the Frontier Nursing University (FNU) mission, I am convinced that I will manage to fulfill my heart’s desire in psychiatry while contributing to the University’s goals to attain its projected mission and objectives.
FNU articulates its mission as providing psychiatric practitioner education that is accessible and which prepares its associated primary caregivers to be entrepreneurial, competent, compassionate, and ethical leaders that can provide healthcare services to all patient populations. However, FNU’s mission focuses more on vulnerable patient populations, especially those living in underserved, rural, and diverse areas and women. When students enroll in a university, the main goal is always to equip them with the knowledge to help them be independent in their practice. Hence, FNU’s entrepreneurial goal for its students will be crucial to me as a psychiatric nurse. That is because it will help me establish my psychiatric healthcare that will serve my target patient and offer jobs to other nurses, thus contributing to reducing unemployment, considering it is one issue that causes mental health issues such as depression in most patient populations. Regarding competency, I will fulfil this mission by engaging in evidence-based research to ensure that every diagnosis and medication offered to the patient is correct to reduce medical errors.
Ethics and compassion are values that every nurse, regardless of the field they serve in, should possess. There have been various cases where mental health patients have been censored or discriminated thus impacting their well-being, while such actions also contribute to most patients not seeking healthcare interventions. Hence, through FNUs effort to ensure that its primary caregivers adhere to ethical values like beneficences and maleficence ensures that nurses work in the interest of their patients by making sure that these patients experience no harm. Also, compassion is a value that help nurses not only to care about the patients effectively but also to relate effectively with coworkers. That is because when coworkers relate well with each other, they coordinate care effectively, thus impacting overall patient outcomes. Hence, I will always ensure that I engage in activities encouraging cohesiveness and collaboration with my colleagues, like respecting their beliefs and culture to enhance favorable conditions for all of us.
